Licensed Psychologist, PSY 24188
Walnut Creek
Dr. Lisa Nakamura provides comprehensive assessments using neuropsychological, psychological, and educational measures to children, adolescents, and young adults at the Summit Center’s Walnut Creek office. She has fifteen years of clinical and assessment experience, working in community clinics, hospitals, schools and community agencies in the Bay Area and across the United States. Dr. Nakamura is published in the book Assessing Children in the Urban Community.
She has worked with children and youth with a range of issues including complex trauma, ADHD, mood disorders, learning challenges, and Autism Spectrum Disorder. Dr. Nakamura had the opportunity to work under the tutelage of neuropsychologists in both private practice and community mental health settings. Her approach is collaborative, drawn from her training in therapeutic collaborative assessments by Dr. Stephen Finn. She believes that assessments can serve as a therapeutic intervention to help see the whole child. When children better understand their strengths and challenges, they can enlist their strengths to address their struggles and feel empowered in the process.
Dr. Nakamura’s interest is in providing in-depth assessments for a child’s learning and emotional needs. She has a passion for integrating culturally sensitive work with families.
